VINTAGE FRAME PROJECT

Well, I’m finally managing to get some time to blog, and do a few projects.

One project that I’ve been trying to get to for some time has been to use that gold frame I picked up at the flea market.  Remember it

I really loved it’s antique-ness and the carved detail.

I love going to flea markets, there’s always the anticipation of finding a bargain or something just that little bit different. 

The picture in this frame was some weird thing in blue.  Now as you probably know, blue is my favorite color, but it just didn’t work with this frame.  But the frame is a rather unusual oblong shape. What to put in it?

A few years ago I bought one of those tin signs (actually I brought more than one!).  Up until just recently when our hallway/entrance was painted, this sign hung in the hallway. It’s never gone back up. Well, not much has gone up, but I’m getting there  - so slowly.

It’s oblong!  And the perfect size!

Firstly I pulled out the pic, but unfortunately as I pulled it out the cardboard tore and so that side was not going to be able to painted without the tear still showing. So it meant I had to spray the weird picture. Out came the gold spray paint and hey presto it’s painted.  It took three light coats to cover nicely.

Next is how to attach the tin art so that it doesn’t slip down.

Hmmm.  Masking tape, PVA glue. I ended up using masking tape and just folded it back on itself so that it acted like double-sided tape.

And here is what it looks like now.

I could have photocopied the tin art, but that would have faded I think over time, this way too I think the artwork has a bit more depth.

Now all I have to do is find the right place to hang it.

PS excuse the not great photos, but i'm working one handed as have  a severe sprained wrist. - Back tomorrow, with this piece of art's final resting place, hopefully i won't be a one armed art hanger!

CRASH BANG AND AN OOPSIE

Hi everyone.

Oh, yes, we have an oopsie!  Actually, it was rather a shattering oopsie that woke me up – and the entire household  - at 2.30 in the morning.

Remember this lovely wall of photos.

Grumbles from the Hubby did not produce him scrambling from a warm bed to traverse the house to see what had happened.  Oh, no, that was my duty. And lo and behold what did I find. A shattered vintage frame and glass scattered across the hallway tiles where several moments earlier it had graced my beautiful gallery wall of family photos.

 This little part of the wall now looks like this

Yes, we have a naked photo.

The photo in question was a childhood one of my mother and rather special because she passed away just four weeks ago.  When I went to hang the photo I noticed that the frame did not have those little metal bits or wooden bit holding the photo in, but it had been taped to the back of the frame. So thinking this would be okay, given that the frame was now going to be hanging from the wall rather than gracing a side table, I hung it.

The frame was a plaster of Paris one, all gilded and rather lovely, but sadly it is no more.  So swept up and dumped, I am surprising left with the backing and photo still attached to the wall.  It looks rather arty – at a push – without a frame, but because it’s the only one (so far, fingers crossed) without a frame, I’m now on the hunt for another vintage frame.

I feel a flea market jaunt coming on this weekend.

GALELRY WALL AT LAST

Hi everyone

A little while ago we finally got rid of the beige hallway and painted it white  - Dulux Alabaster to be exact.  But of course to paint we had to take ALL the artwork down and as with these things it takes FOREVER to get it back up on the walls.

Then there is the decisions of let’s try a little something different, in a different place, and all the art work you’ve forgotten you had stashed somewhere.  For me also, it was the sad situation of losing my mother and mother in law within days of each other, and of course bringing their possessions to our home, which included some photos etc.

So with that in mind I wanted to create a memory wall and have put up photos of grandparents, parents and wedding photos etc, along with photos of our children.

So I started with this conglomeration!

Laying them out on the dining table, trying to get some idea of layout.

Included in my stash was this cardboard letter B I’ve had for sometime (about 3 years!) and was determined to put it up this time.

And ended up with this.

It was a bit hard to take a distance shot as the dining table was behind me.

I know that two pictures look not quite straight, and though I’ve used those Command Velcro strips it just won’t hang right.  I keep telling myself it’s the overall view, not perfection that is required.

Hope you agree.
