Hi everyone,

Hope your weekend is going great.  All over and done with down in my part of the world and Monday morning I've woken to a rather gray day and it looks like it's been raining over night.  Oh, well, I suppose the fabulous fall weather had to end eventually.

With the change in season, I am finding I'm focusing more on projects to be finished - yes THAT BIG LIST again.

This time it's curtains for the master bedroom, and the family room.

Now as you know I chose this fabric for our master room headboard.

And the purple is the wall color - all four walls, though one is a mirrored wardrobe too and another is a sliding door out onto the patio.

Not that it's any closer to getting the headboard done, but... well, good things take time - at least that is what I'm telling myself.

So the conundrum for the curtains is this - do I go simple white/off white (boring??) or do I go color co-ordinated. I could have chosen the co-ordinating fabric to the headboard fabric, but it was a tad too much I thought, all stripes in yellow, purple, pink and green.  I did find a nice off white fabric which had a thin purple stripe in it (intermittently), but felt that it could be like sleeping in a room with a white sheet hanging on the window - and yes, we've probably all done that in our student apartment days, and I'm all grown up now, so want a big girl room!

These are some options I've come up with 

The Samples from Martha's Fabrics - a fabric heaven in Newmarket, Auckland.

 The check is actually reversible, white check, or purple check.

 The darker purple fabric, I think might be adding too much purple in the room.

I love the lemon and white print, but again I think it's adding another major print to the room, given that we already have a striking print for the headboard.

Then there is this stripe which i quite like...but....

Oh...decisions, decisions.

However, I think I’ll be going with the reversible check fabric, using the white check as the side facing the room.

Or... there is another option.  Go with a plain velvet headboard (silver gray??? or even a dark purple) and use the original headboard fabric for the curtains.

BEDROOM REVEAL

Hi everyone

Well, as I said, I've been really busy in my daughter's bedroom.  She only comes home at the weekends, so it makes it a bit easier getting in their and fluffing it up.  

Yesterday, remember I showed you the inspiration room 

The things we took from this room, was it's overall country feel, the white and red color scheme and of course, the checks.

First off, the white furniture.  Yana had a dressing table that has seen a variety of colors over the years, lastly it had bright pink drawers. - read that as flourescent pink - ask The Hubby why he painted them that color and the reply is because that was the paint he had on hand!

The dressing table is one that was given to us when Yana and her sister arrived in our lives from Russia in 1996.  The handles on the drawers are modern which really are not my choice but my daughters. I’d love some glass ones, or vintagy of some kind like this

See I told you a room is never finished.

The curtains I must say were a great success. I made them myself!!  Pat on the back!  

(Don't look at the wrinkles the dog has made!  But he is cute, isn't he?)

I was going for the country look and chose a large gingham check.  They are on those curtain clips so no bothering about tape and pulling the tape threads, that is certain to divorce material.  The curtains are basically a large pillowcase in some ways. I stitched the 3 sides with the backing lining and then once they were hung I left them a few days (a month!) and then hemmed them by hand.  I much prefer a hand-stitched hem than seeing the stitching through the fabric.

Art work was simple and from The Warehouse, plus a few framed family photos.

I will admit they're a tad crooked and yes they're not necessarily spaced perfectly... but it doesn't have to be perfect.  She loves her room, and that's satisfaction for me.

The mirror is still to go up, and the white butler’s table holding the red lamp needs a paint job on the table top. The little cross stitched cloth on the dressing table I did when I was 9 years old and in hospital for nearly a year, and that was MANY YEARS AGO!  The embroidered-lidded jewelry dish was passed down from The Hubby's mother.  Both items are really appropriate for Yana's room as she loves embroidery.

Really I think we’ve done a good job sticking with the inspiration photo.

MOTIVATION AND A COMING MINI REVEAL

Hi Everyone,

Motivation is something that wanes – at least it does for me.  I mean sometimes it just feel likes it all work, and nothing else.  However, maybe it’s best to look how far you’ve come, and that’s where the blog post I did weeks ago about a big list comes in handy.

I don’t know about you, but I find if I get the chance to tick things off a list, it makes re realize how far I’ve actually come, even though the steps seem to be minute at times, and there is no progress at all.

I’m more organized with meal planning and made myself a basic meal-planning sheet

I've done some knitting. – finished, pics coming - now this one is amazing because I haven't knitted for 30 years!

So really when you tick off some of these items on my Big List, it doesn’t seem so daunting after all.

I haven’t shown you my eldest daughter’s bedroom yet. Yana’s room doesn’t get a lot of light, plus it’s small. I had it all prettied up, ironed the duvet cover etc, primped and primed it ready for picture taking – then the dog decided it was a good place for a rest!

This room was our inspiration.  She loved the red and I loved the country feel of it.  Plus of course I’m a painted furniture freak…ah lover.
