Hi everyone
Hope your
week is going well.
Finally got
another project ticked off.
Years ago when
we lived in our other house, which had a sort of Mediterranean, feel to it I collected
a couple of old wooden ladders. Yes,
ladders. Why you ask?
Well, I am
not too proud to say that they came from a little scavenging trip. Where we live once a year you can put out
your in-organic on the curb and it will be hauled off to the dump or
wherever. Well, this yearly curb dump
is a prime opportunity to go scavenging and finding little treasures. And one
particular sortie I came home with an old bunk wooden ladder. It was all chippy and lovely.
I wasn’t going to do much with it, just hang some Mexican rugs on the rungs, a straw hat etc. With a few plants around it, my little vignette looked fabulous.

Fast
forward about 15 years and here we are living in the country and I have a
penchant for a ladder again. Trouble is
where too far away from those little scavenging opportunities, but thankfully
son-in-law to be scored one on my behalf.
Truth be
told it’s been sitting outside for about six months! But finally I got my self into gear and got it done.
Firstly it
was a bit too high and I got SIL to be to cut about 8 inches off it. In hindsight, I probably should have left it
alone but… well it’s done now.
I wanted to
put it up against the wall that you see just after you come in our front door. But
to keep it in place I just put the cane trunk in front of it.
This time
however, I used vintage aprons and just hung them over the rungs. The top two have beautiful embroider and
both have crochet around them. Someone
has spent a long time making these beauties.
They've even embroidered the pockets and apron edges.
The red and green ones were brought in 1966 by my parents when they were traveling in Portugal. I don’t think they’ve ever been used, or at least minimally.

I did
however put some art above, but not yet convinced it’s right. Looks too high but I did think the ladder
needed something above. I know the
colors are not all co-ordinated, but…remember it doesn’t have to be
perfect. Again what I’m finding over
and over is that my decorating is about creating things from memories.
Would love
to hear what you think.
Happy days
Jane
What a pretty vignette you created with your ladder, I love its rustic charm, it would look fabulous in a bathroom too with white towels hanging on it, if ever you wish to part with it, let me know :)

Hi Lee, yes i love my ladder, i've done this before with several other ladders, found them in the inorganic - they were old bunk ladders. Will keep an eye out for another ladder for you, my future son in law found this one for me at one of his jobs he was at.
